Kaspar has over 30 years of experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and holds an MSc in Geography and Computer Science. In 1992 he founded Esri Switzerland with a staff of three; he managed the company for 18 years and grew it to a successful GIS company with a staff of 40 and a yearly turnover of US$ 12.5 million.
Following his time at Esri Switzerland, Kaspar used his practical experience deploying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and building Spatial Data Infrastructures in countries such as Germany, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo, Republic of Congo, Lesotho and Djibouti.
In summer 2010 Kaspar moved to Kigali, Rwanda to establish Esri Rwanda Ltd. Nine years later, in July 2019, he handed over – as planned – to Rwandan Management the company is now well-established company with a professional staff of eight. Kaspar continues engaging with members from the public and private sector in Rwanda as well as with development partners in Sub-Saharan Africa. His key strengths are his ability to establish effective partnerships, work in multi-stakeholder environments, and retains a strong focus on the economic viability and sustainability of projects when consulting clients on the use of IT, innovative mapping, managing (vs. losing) data, making it open, and turning it into useful information.
Having worked globally, Kaspar understands communication is key when working with differing cultures. He has the ability to adapt to changing priorities as required in consultation with the customer and uses his excellent analytical and organisational skills in high-pressure environments, often with frequently changing deadlines.
