Alan Smart is an experienced and respected geospatial consultant who has advised private and public-sector organisation in Australasia and internationally. He held the position of Senior Associate in the Sydney office of ACIL Allen Consulting, specialising in the economics and application of geospatial systems which among other technologies included space based systems, earth observation from space and augmented and unaugmented Global Navigational Satellite Systems (GNSS), applications of spatial and related technologies in autonomous vehicles, emergency management and logistics.
His previous roles included working with the Commonwealth Government in energy, resources and maritime sectors. He is a former Chief Executive of the Pipeline Authority and Executive Director of the Timor Gap Joint Authority.
Alan was educated at the University of Sydney and the Australian National University. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Economics and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is Chair of the Tasmanian Spatial Information Council and past appointments include Member of the Board of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator and Chair of the Spatial Information Business Association.
