Building the Business Case for Investment in Geospatial Projects

Spatial information projects are often dogged by the inability to gain the attention of the Chief Executive and establish a Return on Investment (RoI) that convinces the Chief Financial Officer. In a tough economic climate, it is particularly important that any project that requires investment can show a very rapid return, so as not to undermine already tight budgets.

The concept of “cashable” or realisable savings is key to building a robust case, as is providing comparable evidence of other organisations that have benefited from implementing similar solutions. However, in addition to solid analysis, the case must be shown to address the organisation’s most important challenges and be compellingly presented in terms that senior executives understand. Although there are plenty of consultancy practices offering business case development services, their approaches often require a budget only justifiable for the largest of projects.

This course introduces a “light touch” approach, providing attendees with a set of tools and techniques that they can take back to their organisations and apply quickly and effectively.
